Edmund Hillary is a real Hero!

More than a Mountaineer
By Bill O’Brien

In the year 1953 in May 29th, a man called Sir Edmund Hillary who was a New Zealander was the first person to reach the top of Mt Everest . That’s why you can find him on the New Zealand five dollar note and if you didn't know Sir Edmund Hillary was knighted by the Queen. He used to also be a great bee-keeper

He was an advocate for the people including the children of Nepal. This was shown when he used his fame to speak out to other which helped raise money and funds to build them a school, hospitals, clinics, an airfield and bridges.

He founded the Himalayas Trust which became a charity foundation to provide for people. He believed in helping those in need. This was shown in the way he used his fame to get financial support for the needs he had seen for the people of Nepal instead of using it himself. The time had to come for him to pass away at the age of 88.

He showed compassion to the people of Nepal. He also was an inspiration to other people because he inspires people to never give up. Sir Edmund Hillary also committed in helping people and giving them a good future. He used courage and bravery to climb up Mount Everest.

He believed in helping those in need. He also believed that the children in Nepal needed an education.

Sir Ed was a high achiever and had courage for others that didn't. Edmund Hillary was a supportive person because he cared about the children in Nepal to have a bright future and cared for the other people.

Amit is a real hero!

WALHT: In reading this article I have been learning to combine close reading and and inference skills to analyse text to learn more about qualities of people known as leaders.

SJ: 4:2:1998

Torrential rain and a road like a canal, with  traffic fighting it’s way to get to the end.  Children chatted about their imaginations. Elevated glass skyscrapers surrounding everyone. However, there was someone who stood out with great behavior,  Amit was a real Hero!

Amit was brave and supportive person because he helped an old lady cross a chaotic road.  He believed in helping people no matter what come in his way because he had the act of bravery and support. As a leader, he wasn’t concerned about himself but he cared for others, he also had great responsibility because he was taking care for the old lady.

Cress seeds!

WALT: Carry out and record a scientific investigation
To propagate a seed or plant. You can cut a little piece of the plant you want and place it inside a plastic cup poke holes into the bottom of the cup so that if you add too much water the water can be drained when you add clean kitty litter or little tiny pebbles. then add dirt just up  to one-quarter of the cup. Then using your finger dab the soil softly and add your seed or the little piece you cut out and cover it with the soil.

Procedure:

You will need:
  • Magnifying glass
  • blotting paper
  • large plastic
  • soft-drink bottle
  • peas or crease seeds

Method:
Step 1: Cut the top from a used plastic bottle and rinse thoroughly. Place some blotting paper or paper towel around the inside of the bottle, near the bottom.

Step 2: Wedge some cress seeds and some peas between the blotting paper and the side of the bottle.
Step 3: Add enough water to fill the bottle to the bottom of the blotting paper. Leave in a warm light place and watch carefully over a few days for the seeds to germinate.

Step 4: After the seeds have germinated (after 5-7 days), extract one of the plants and place it in a drop or two of water.

Step 5: Examine the root with a magnifying glass.

Observations:
See if you can identify the root hairs using the diagram. Sketch a root with root hairs

Note: the direction in which the roots have grown, no matter which way up the seeds were.

Hypothesis:
I think the seeds will grow roots and sprout out more plants because it’s we tried another strategy.
